WORD ON THE STREET IS:
For cottage industry yarnies The SkeinMinder is the greatest invention since the wheel. It frees me up for multitasking, I can check on dyepots, rinse some yarn, answer an email all while winding yarn. It's a very worthwhile investment in a quality tool and in your own productivity. Two thumbs waaaay up! I love my SkeinMinder! It has virtually eliminated those underweight/overweight 'mistake' skeins I used to have when I used a scale to measure them - and being able to walk away from the winder, knowing it will stop on its own, is AMAZING. The SkeinMinder allows me to do other things while it does the work, and it stops my winder when it's finished! Carrie has created a new device that has streamlined my prep and finishing processes in a way that is invaluable. Now that I have this, I can't imagine doing what I do without it. |
We love the SkeinMinder. It's a dream come true for my workers and production has picked up by 50%. We really want to purchase another one as soon as possible. You can pry my SkeinMinder out of my COLD. DEAD. HANDS. It wasn't until I did that first actual production run that I fully realized it was not just a luxury, but a really essential piece of gear, and all thoughts of buyer's remorse went RIGHT out the window. |
Being able to set the number to which I want my winder to go to and just hit go, then being able to dye, go to the bathroom, rinse yarn, without having to keep a constant eye on the clicker is amazing. Being able to re-skein yarn and to have the winder stop after the yarn has been re-skeined without having to keep a constant eye on it is amazing. One of the best features, though, is how the SkeinMinder will shut off the motor (without losing the count) when the yarn tangles or snags. No longer do I have to race back to the winder so that the motor won’t be grinding away. It’s the most amazing invention ever; it’s worth every penny of its cost and more.

I am so grateful for Carrie for making the SkeinMinder. It is quick to set up, easy to use and a snap to customize. Carrie's directions in the manual are thorough and easy to understand. The SkeinMinder is also quiet, unlike our previous rotation counter, which is a huge relief. Carrie's unique background as both an electrical engineer and yarn dyer shows in the thoughtful and comprehensive design. I look forward to seeing what Carrie designs next for us hand dyers! |
It's so amazing to turn on the winder and walk away. I can mind the kids and not worry about the yarn! I'm even able to sneak in extra rounds of winding, like I'll turn it on and leave to pick the kids up from school. It's magically done when I get home and I just have to tie the skeins off! We're loving our SkeinMinder. We need one for each of our winders. CAN'T WAIT!! |
As a one-woman operation, I am always trying to multi-task successfully. Now that I also have a second career as a Pilates teacher, and thus spend less time in the dye studio, the ability to multi task has become even more imperative! The SkeinMinder allows me to actually multi-task with visible success. Trying to dye, rinse, label, etc., while also trying to skein yarn for dyeing, re-skeining yarn, and breaking down larger skeins into smaller ones for the Mini-Skein sets I offer has actually become do-able! The SkeinMinder has literally changed and improved my entire operation; I can’t imagine not having it now!

I am SO ADDICTED to the SkeinMinder. I don't miss the clacking of the old mechanical counters, not a bit. Having the winder run silent run deep means I can hear myself think, even watch TV while skeining. Of course that would be true with any old electronic counter, but any old electronic counter would not solve the problem of my fragile attention span - the SkeinMinder does. Knowing that I will never again have to ask myself "Wait, WHICH size was I supposed to be winding this time?" turns out to be... priceless.

It is The SHIT. I am going through winding so much faster, and more accurately. |
She lent me an early prototype last spring and she's never getting it back. |
